Ruling: Yes.
A-1 is permitted to break the plane of the boundary line and since
he/she has not released the ball for a throw-in, a violation has not
been committed. Reference: Rule 7
3) A-1 blocks a pass near the endline. The ball
falls to the floor inbounds, but A-1 who is off balance, steps off
the court. A-1 returns inbounds, secures the ball and dribbles?
Ruling: Legal. A-1 did not leave the court voluntarily and did

4) A-1’s last free throw attempt lodges between

A-2 gets between players A-1 and B-1 and continues to move between
A-1 and B-1 as is dribbling and moving?
Ruling: The closely guarded rule and count continues in all

6) A-1 is fouled. The scorer informs the official
that team B has committed 10 team fouls. The first free throw is
unsuccessful. The second free throw is successful. When B-1 has the
ball for a throw-in, the scorer informs an official that Team B had
only committed 9 team fouls?
Ruling: Correctable error (awarding an unmerited free throw).
The second free throw is cancelled. Resume play at the point of
interruption. Since no goal has been scored, resume play with an

7) With 2.8 seconds remaining in the second
quarter, A-1 completes a throw-in and A-2 completes a successful try
for goal (ball in flight when horn sounds to end the quarter). The
official rules a good goal. The coach of Team B checks the video
tape at halftime and prior to starting the third quarter, Team B
approaches the Referee and states that the video monitor showed that
time had expired prior to the ball being in flight?
Ruling: The goal is good. Technical foul charged to Team B for

Ruling: Yes. When the closely guarded rule is in effect, the
count continues. The rules is in place anywhere in the front court.

Ruling: If it is a “sock” there is nothing to prohibit if from
going above the knee
10) May a player wear gloves of the medical/food
service kind, if because of medical reason?
Ruling: Gloves are non-traditional equipment and not necessary
to play the game. If being worn for medical reason, it must be

11) A-1 is fouled in the act of shooting. The
horn, ending the first quarter, sounds while the ball is still in
the hands of A-1. The official has no definite information that
would enable the Referee to correct time?
Ruling: The free throws are attempted as part of the first

12) In a game with the shot clock in use, A-1’s
try for goal becomes lodged between the ring and the backboard?
Ruling: Alternating possession regardless of the team that has

device attached to his/her clothing that enable a player, who wears
a hearing aid, to hear the coach (A) during time-outs; (b) while
seated on the bench;(c) while participating in the game?
Ruling: Yes, this is considered a “reasonable accommodation” for
a special needs student-athlete based on ADA law. The game of
basketball is meant to be inclusive not exclusive. Reference: Rules

14) B-1 is standing behind the plane of the
backboard before A-1 jumps for a lay up try. The forward momentum
causes airborne player A-1 to charge into B-1?
Ruling: A-1 is entitled to her/his position obtained legally
before A-1 left the floor. Player control foul is charged to A-1.

15) May a player participate while wearing an
ankle bracelet (probation, legal requirement)?
Ruling: Yes. If the school has ok’d the player to participate
(be part of the team), the bracelet would join the religious and
medical category. It must be treated like an ankle or knee brace and
be covered so as not to scratch, cut, etc. other players.
